About
President Jay Hartzell’s live music initiative, Longhorn Live, is a campus-wide effort to amplify The University of Texas at Austin’s role as a key cultural driver of Austin’s music culture, community and economy. Longhorn Live is a joint venture between the Office of the President, University Events & Experience and the College Of Fine Arts.
When President Hartzell unveiled UT Austin’s 10-year strategic plan, Change Starts Here, in 2022, he vowed to expand live music performances on campus, aiming to better connect the University to the larger Austin culture and reclaim the University’s roots as a vibrant incubator for some of Texas’ best-known musical talent. Longhorn Live, which is rooted in the Live Music Task Force managed by Ramón H. Rivera-Servera, dean of the College of Fine Arts, places UT students at the forefront: showcasing their talent, creating new opportunities for students to interact with high-profile musicians and integrating them into Austin’s ever-growing music scene.
